DRESSAGE TRAINING AT MSH  ☆

We have two passions at Michigan Sport Horse: Raising GREAT Holsteiners and training dressage horses and riders. We have only a very few students any given time as the training is very intense. I believe in complete throughness and obedience in the horse. The concept that the horse MUST be accepting of the bit and forward on the bit.  Yes, we have all read these words at the end of the test but very few people teach this.  this is not a place for a rider without ambitions and an open mind about change. It is my belief that the horse must first be obedient.....then taught that the desire to go forward is not optional.  Dressage here is 95% seat and leg and 5% hand. All horses worked primarily in a snaffle.    FORWARD FORWARD FORWARD.

                                                     SOME BASIC THOUGHTS HERE:

As  Caesar Malan, the dog whisperer says, there are no problem horses only problem riders. Horses do get bad habits from bad riding, but  they never stay up all night trying to think up ways to be bad. If a rider continues to have issues with a horse they need to look at themselves to find out why the horse is objecting to their methods.

It is my belief that it is the trainers job to make a game that the horse is able and willing to play AND answer most questions asked by the rider - CORRECTLY!! If the horse can not answer correctly then the trainer asked the wrong questions.

Where knowledge ends.......abuse begins.

One of the few things a rider can say that will cause me to become a bit ballistic is the excuse that the horse just will not........a thinking rider needs to reflect on what they are doing to cause the horse to behave in a certain way.

We have the time for a few special students with strong motivation and minds open for new ideas and change.
